A person's character and performance is what matters, not the technical aspects. But I was pleasantly surprised with this film. For all the controversy it generated, I was quite impressed by the level of detail and accuracy in the portrayal of the original men and women. The men are portrayed as men first and foremost, but they were also hunters and were natural and capable fighters. The women were portrayed as no more than the "equal" to the men, but also some of them were masters of the bow and arrow, and could shoot a deer in a few seconds. There were some strong women in this film, including the mother of the main character, and the strong but complex female protagonist who was torn between her love for the father and the independence of her own will. In addition to the strong women, there were also the powerful men who were also strong and capable. They played the role of the "leader" and the "father" without ever really seeming to dominate the role. In fact, they were the ones who also often seemed to be pulling the strings of the group, in their own way. And the weaker men, who were no more than the "least competent" of the group, did not seem to have that strong of a voice to call the shots, either. So there is a strong emphasis on how the women have to keep their distance from the men, which could mean that one of them is going to be the leader or the one who is going to command the group. This is what I found to be most interesting in this film. I enjoyed how it was shot, too. The scenery was breathtaking, the locations were excellent, and the cinematography was excellent. The music was well done as well. The film is about the hunt of the famous Colorado Indians, and there are many historical documents that give the story a more complete and accurate picture of what happened. I believe the film is in the same league as all the other American movies that deal with the hunt of the Colorado Indians. This film is excellent, and I recommend it highly.
