A hilarious look at the history of the popular Ukrainian Eurovision song contest. From the humble beginnings of folk singer Alexandr "Ilya" Kondrashovskiy, through to the hugely popular idol Natalia Soboleva. and then back to the music that made them famous. One thing that is important to note, is that this film is not a documentary, but more of a 'history lesson'. The narrative does not feature traditional narrative or points of view. Instead it is a story of the contestants, their struggles, the pitfalls and obstacles that they face, and what happened when they had to change their lives. The first few minutes of this film are typical of the standard Eurovision films, the intro, the competition and the results. However, the rest of the film does not disappoint. There is a very strong sense of the harshness and people's situations that the contestants live. It makes you feel for the contestants, their love for their homeland, and their struggles. And that is what you want to see in a Eurovision movie. The problem is that the rest of the movie is more of a story of the contestants and their lives than the contest itself. It does not even feature the singers at all, instead we get an intro that is pretty much a recap of what happened in the contest, and a recap of the events that led to the tragic accident. I am sure that this film will be loved by many, and I look forward to seeing what other people have to say about it. I really do hope that they will make a sequel, because the first one was pretty good, but I feel like it could have been better.
