As a French feminist, I can say with some confidence that "Les Vieux Carrettes" is a wonderful film with great performances by the entire cast, without being too biased. The story revolves around the lives of three women in a French town during the late 19th Century. The three women have been part of the "Marquis" family, the nobility, for years. During their lives, one of them has become pregnant. When her daughter comes of age and marries a handsome and successful young man, one of the women becomes disillusioned with her life. She has an affair with a young, but feisty man who has his own agenda, and a bitter fight with her husband. The third woman, Christine (Lea Seydoux), has come to the point in her life when she feels she has given her entire life to her husband. She is now the head of her household and mother to her beautiful, but troubled daughter, Catherine (Thandie Newton). As her own life is falling apart, she gives the impression that she will give up her career in journalism for a new life, living in France. But, it soon becomes apparent that her intentions are to leave the Marques and her daughter for a life in Paris. After a series of events, including a series of misunderstandings and betrayals, her husband and Catherine begin to fall in love. "Les Vieux Carrettes" is a film that is worth seeing, especially for women. As a feminist, I believe it is an important film to show the life of women in France at that time. While not exactly a "feminist film" by any means, it is an excellent film nonetheless. The performances of the entire cast are truly magnificent. I was particularly touched by the way Thandie Newton plays a woman who has given up her life to find a new life, and it is a film that will hopefully inspire the next generation of women. She is truly a wonderful actress, and I applaud her for her role. The film is long, but never boring. The scenes that it takes to reveal what the women are going through are very important. It is also very witty. If you are a woman, I can highly recommend this film.

Julien Duvivier, who has made many great films, including "La Belle Époque," also has an excellent grasp of the story. He shows the romance, the ideals and the transformation of an ageless woman in the struggle to determine what she wants, to find what is right for her, and to discover what is right for herself. In the movie, the younger Viviane is not so innocent as she seems, she is the victim of her circumstances, and she is a little reluctant to accept her fate. Viviane's younger brother does a great job of conveying the love between the two. And, to me, it was amazing how Viviane's husband, who is a New York city cop, treated her so differently from the other police officers. She is not blind to the fact that he loves her, but, on the other hand, she does not know that he loves her, nor does he know that she loves him. The contrast between the two of them is very interesting. It is so much more than just a love story. The characters and their relationships are so complicated, they are very complex. It is hard for me to express how complex this film is, but it is an amazing film, and a very entertaining one. It is full of important, timeless, and universal themes. It is full of allusions, metaphors, and allegories. It is also full of great performances, and a wonderful musical score, all of which are very special. I also enjoyed seeing the wonderful cinematography. I also enjoyed seeing the great French locations, such as in Paris, the countryside, and the Mediterranean. I have to say that the last scene of the movie is very moving, in that it is a beautiful thing. This movie is a must-see, and I am certainly going to see it again. My rating is ten out of ten. I hope it will be released in the U.S. soon. This is a masterpiece.
