A decade or so ago, I watched "A History of Violence" (a movie of the same name, based on the same author) in a cinema in Mumbai. It was an inspiring movie and a good showcase for Akshay Kumar and Madhavan, but I found the film to be a bit too lighthearted and therefore not one of my favorites. "Ramguru" is a dramatic thriller that has the feel of a musical. In the beginning of the film, there is a song titled "I want to know your secret" and later in the film, you hear a song titled "Ramguru" - both songs are from the same composer and they were produced by the same team. The film starts with a bang. It's one of those movies that you have to listen to at least one song in your head before you even start watching it. When the film is over, you will wonder why you bothered to watch it. But I won't spoil the movie for you. In this film, Akshay Kumar plays a charismatic and intelligent character - he is a captain of the military police - he is very successful and respected. He works under an authoritarian and corrupt system and he has a soft spot for his underlings, especially his corrupt officer. As the film progresses, Akshay Kumar gradually falls in love with a girl called Kavita (Madhavan), who is the daughter of a politician and played by Preeti and Vijay Raaz. In fact, it's the second time the film has shown us Akshay Kumar in love. The film is an epic tale that takes place in the early 70's when India was ruled by a dictator named Gen. V.D. Malik. In fact, the film is set in an entirely different era, the time of the British Raj and it's a story of a couple who meet and fall in love over their differences. The movie starts off slow and gradually gets more interesting as it goes on. The film is told in a poetic way, the way that it's presented is beautifully told and the songs used are actually haunting and heart-wrenching. Madhavan and Preeti (both played by Amisha Patel) are the most perfect choice for the leads, they are not really good actors and neither is Akshay Kumar. The problem with the film is that it doesn't have the intensity of the best Hindi films. It's not too intense and it's not too melodramatic. Madhavan, Preeti and Akshay Kumar are all very good actors and they are good at playing the hero, villain and the couple, but the film never feels like it has the power of the best Hindi films. But I guess that's because the director wanted the film to be a classic like the likes of "Ramguru". So, the film would have the same affect, but without the intensity. The story of "Ramguru" is very interesting and it would have been a great film if it was focused on a couple like Akshay Kumar and Madhavan. The story is about a young woman who has the power to alter the course of history and take over the world. It's about a corrupt officer who is also in love with his underling and it's about a corrupt cop who
