A lot of people, both journalists and film-goers, have found this movie, and especially the documentary on which it is based, to be a significant cultural document of the last 100 years. I can't think of any other movie I've seen that captured the cultural shift of the 20th century so powerfully as this one. The first 20 minutes are a mix of interviews with the three leaders of the first American Revolution, Gen. George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Each of these men are given a different and unique perspective on what the revolution was all about. For example, the documentary goes into great detail about the term "spoils of war" that was used by the British, and by the Americans. It also describes the feeling of the colonists to the British, and how the people were very unhappy with the colonial government. There is a lot of information in the movie, but it's really well done. I would say that the best part of the movie is the first part, which is the actual revolution. The documentary goes into great detail about what the first American colonists went through, and how they wanted to make sure that the British never came back again. It also tells you about the reaction of the people to the British rule, and how they looked at themselves in relation to their "inheritance" from the British, who had been more powerful than the people. The documentary is really well done. If you have a strong interest in the history of the American Revolution, and especially the period in which it happened, you should definitely watch this movie.
