I can see why this film didn't do well at the box office. For those of you who don't know, the original film was based on a novel by Stephen King and was released in 1988. It was not well received and was almost immediately forgotten. As a result, the producers decided to reboot the film and began casting. In 2007, they brought in The Mentalist's Dominic Purcell and Kyle McLachlan to star in this film, and they were both great. Now, they both agreed that they would be willing to return for a sequel. This movie is based on a novel by Stephen King called "I Know What You Did Last Summer". The film stars Ethan Hawke as Paul, who is a high school senior who has been home schooled since childhood. Paul is an excellent student and has always excelled academically. He is also extremely talented in the art of making drawings. His life is put into jeopardy when he is abducted by a mysterious woman named Debbie. Debbie is an actress who has a tenuous relationship with her father, who is the sheriff of a small town in Maine. Debbie comes to Paul's school with the intention of rehabilitating him and getting him ready for college. She then proceeds to abduct Paul and takes him to a home where she will be able to confine him and teach him to be a good person. Paul's mother, played by Mary Steenburgen, is the one person who believes that Paul is being abused. She is very supportive and tries to help her son with his issues. As Paul starts to be used by Debbie, Debbie and her boyfriend (played by Danny Huston) attempt to steal the girl's father's identity. The film is also somewhat similar to "Cabin in the Woods" in that it was a pretty good sequel. The ending of the film was also somewhat of a twist. Overall, this is a very interesting film that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this film.
