The original Greek film, which has now become a legend among film fans, was directed by veteran cinematographer, David Dreyfus, who in many ways deserves the credit for this film's success. Dreyfus' vision and effort to get the best out of the actors and his cast made this film more enjoyable and memorable than it was in its original theatrical run. The film is set in the 1930's and is based on the true story of David Halberstam, who in the course of a month, in the middle of World War II, took on the task of saving the life of a Jewish boxer, which, in the end, did not materialize. The film, which is based on an actual event, begins when Harry Bailey, a Hollywood director, is hired by a wealthy American to make a movie about a young German who took on the role of boxer in order to help the Jewish community. The movie is set in the late 1940's, and is a far cry from the depiction in the original Greek film. It is also far more realistic in its treatment of the Jewish community, which is shown as a highly religious and loving community. The film is also very close to the facts as it is based on the real life events, which are shown in a very good way. There is a strong performance by the young actor, David Huddleston, who plays the lead role of Harry Bailey. David Huddleston has come a long way since his debut role in the 1986 classic, "The Stolen Earth." He is now a very well known actor, who is well suited to play the role of a man who is taken on the job of saving a Jewish boxer. The performance is well done and the film is very enjoyable and enjoyable to watch. "Breath" is definitely not a film for everyone. I would recommend this film to those who are fans of David Dreyfus' work and those who like a good drama and action film. I give the film an 8 out of 10.
