Based on the novel by James Ellroy (also the author of the novel "Day of the Dead") and directed by Joel Schumacher, the film deals with the world of professional assassins and the way they kill their clients. Yes, this is a dark film, but it's a film that keeps the viewer engaged. Not much happens in the first hour of the movie and then it picks up in the second. There is a lot of violence and a lot of blood. There is an unforgettable scene in which the protagonist, a female assassin (Katherine Kendall), fights her way through a gang of five men who surround her, stab her repeatedly, take her to the rooftop and make her kill them. What she did with the rest of the city's population was a brilliant move. The second hour of the film is a great action thriller. The audience learns how they came to the job of killing people and who hired them. As they figure out their profession and who made them do it, they are forced into a moral dilemma. The movie also has a great ensemble cast. Tony Shalhoub, who played the lead role in the original "Day of the Dead", plays the assassin Dan in this film. James Cromwell is the main antagonist in the film. Catherine Zeta-Jones is the lead female lead. The supporting cast includes Jeff Fahey, Gene Hackman and Ralph Fiennes. Lastly, there are quite a few bad guys. One of them is played by Eric Roberts. He's a complete psychopath who prefers his victims to die when they're already dead. This is an action thriller that keeps you guessing. The ending of the film is very good. There are a few revelations in the story of the assassins, and some action scenes. I don't like to talk about the ending, but it's satisfying and is a nice ending. This film won the BAFTA for Best Film and it won the Golden Globe for Best Film. Worth watching.
